Lugano, located at the shores of Lake Lugano, has plenty to offer: stunning views, mountains and amazing food. With a fusion of Italian and Swiss cooking, traditional Ticinese cuisine and international flavors, there’s plenty in Lugano to enjoy. We list the 10 best places to start with. Buon appetito! Bosco Gurin. Where to stay: Hotel Ristorante Walser. Wandering around the fairytale-like Bosco Gurin is one of the best things to do in Ticino, Switzerland. This little Alpine village feels like a place from the past – it’s remote and insular, and it is the only place in Ticino where the official language is German. Monte Bre. Monte Brè is Lugano’s local mountain just a short funicular ride from the city center to the summit at 925 meters above sea level. This is the sunniest mountain in Switzerland, so the perfect place to visit on a gloomy day, and you might even be able to see some of the olive trees at the base of the mountain. This Italian-speaking region in Southern Switzerland is on the border with Italy. Bellinzona is the capital, and Lugano is the most important city in the canton, known for its beautiful waterfront, steep hillsides and gorgeous lake views. . Part 3. Other places. Jura Mountains: Somewhat overlooked in favour of the more dramatic Alps. On the southern edge the chain tends to jut up suddenly: providing steep hills, sheer cliffs and lots of gorges. This gives great views of the Jura, the Flatland and lakes, the Alps, and also off into France and Germany. This place is a hidden gem! Must try in Lugano. We dined in and tried the Autumn menu - very special and really nicely done. Great portion with reasonable prices and great taste! The owner and the staff are very welcoming, also recommending some of their great dishes ;) been in Lugano for 5 days and this is definitely the place to go back to. Lugano also makes a good base for visiting other cities and sites in the area. The city is a pleasant place to relax in the summertime and is only half an hour away from the italian cities of Como and Varese . 6 Hotel Splendide Royal Lugano. The Splendide Royal hotel in Lugano is a luxurious establishment with beautiful lake views. It has two restaurants as well as a wine bar, and its guests usually rate it very highly. The staff are attentive and professional, and the guests themselves are likely to return again and again. And as for food, start with the selection of cold meats and finish with the pork ribs, dry-rubbed, grilled, and oh-so-delicious with a side of rosemary potatoes!
